Air Force Veteran and Heart Bypass Survivor Launches Save Live Grow

Burlington, VT · July 2026

BURLINGTON, VT — Gene, a maintenance manager and automation specialist who spent his Air Force career and civilian work evaluating systems for a living, has launched Save Live Grow, a website documenting his recovery from a six-bypass heart surgery and his ongoing effort to improve his health in public.

Gene, married 37 years with six children and seven grandchildren, underwent emergency bypass surgery three years ago after a routine test revealed blockages far more serious than initially expected. He went in anticipating a single stent and came out of surgery having received six bypasses. His recovery has included a later diagnosis of pericarditis, inflammation around the heart, which he continues to manage.

"I've spent my career evaluating systems — what holds up, what fails under pressure. After the surgery, I turned that same eye on my own health. Save Live Grow is that process, done out loud, in case it helps somebody else."

Gene is also an AHA-certified CPR, AED, and First Aid instructor, and brings that same public-safety focus to the site's mission: encouraging people to take their heart health seriously before a crisis forces the issue, rather than after.

The site includes articles on heart health and recovery, a free interactive supplement tracker tool, and Gene's own public 90-Day health challenge, alongside the Papa Fuel brand — named for a coffee mug gift from his granddaughter that became a turning point in his recovery mindset.
